Lessons I’ve Carried Forward

Founder of Evolving Energy Systems

I founded Evolving Energy Systems in 2007 and went on to oversee business operations and sales teams.

Energy & Efficiency Work

My work has included energy efficiency, LED lighting, solar, wind, CHP/CCHP, energy audits, and responsibility for programs totaling more than one billion annual kilowatt-hours.

Building & Leading Teams

I have built and managed national teams, trained people across renewable technologies, and worked with customers and partners in multiple markets.

Complex Decisions & Negotiation

My work has included supplier negotiations, capital raising, business development, and projects where competing priorities had to be weighed carefully.

Preparation. Listening. Responsibility.

The value of those years was not simply the size of the projects. What stayed with me was learning how to listen, weigh competing information, make difficult decisions, take responsibility for those decisions, and work with people whose interests do not always begin in the same place.

Listen First

Understand the people and facts involved before reaching conclusions.

Prepare Carefully

Complex decisions deserve organization, attention, and follow-through.

Weigh Competing Information

Good decisions require examining more than one perspective.

Take Responsibility

Own the decision and the work required after it is made.

Running a business and serving as a judge are different responsibilities. What I carry forward from my professional work is the habit of preparing carefully, listening closely, staying organized, weighing information, and taking responsibility for the decisions I make.
